SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

Special Educational Needs Coordinator(SENCO): Mrs C Finnegan

The school has a well-developed and effective system for identifying and supporting pupils who may experience difficulties accessing the curriculum.

Pupils who are identified as having additional needs can access curriculum support within the school. We also use expertise from outside agencies to support pupils with specific needs within the classroom, for example, Educational Psychology, Dyslexia support, Speech and Language Therapy, Autism Support and Counselling.

Within the school we have three designated classes for children with social and communication difficulties. These are small group settings, with specialist teachers, who use a range of strategies specifically to support pupils with Autism.

In addition, the school has a Nurture Room to support pupils who have social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. This is a targeted intervention in Primary 1 and has been highly successful in addressing pupils’ needs.
